Tripura Medical College identifies CV virus

Agartala, Jul 31 (UNI) Micro-Biology Department of Tripura Medical College has, for the first time in this state as well as in the northeast, identified a dreaded virus responsible for septicemia.

This has also been confirmed by the All India Institute of Medical Sciences(AIIMS).

In a statement here today, authorities at this Global Education Network-run hospital, informed that after a year-long research, Dr Urbashi and Dr Pradip Kumar Das, Assistant Professors at the Micro-Biology Department, classified the rare Chomobacterium Violaceum (CV) virus .

''For the first time in Northeast India, CV was identified in the state and five out of eight septicemia patients had died so far in India,'' the statement said and added that CV had earlier been detected in Karnataka, Chandigarh and Andhra Pradesh at least seven times.
