Agartala, July 31 (UNI) The Bar Association of Tripura(BAT) has decided to petition President Pratibha Patil with the demand of setting up a separate high court in the state.

BAT officials said here today that the Centre had for long been refusing the demand despite an increasing number of cases in the state.

''There are 5660 pending cases while only three judges are posted in Guwahati High Court's Agartala bench.

They too are not sitting regularly,'' a BAT statement said.

It also pointed out that the state had been losing huge amount of money by paying travelling allowances for the judges because they are frequently flying from Guwahati.

Though newly formed Chattisgarh and Uttarakhand have already got separate high courts with less number of cases, Tripura was yet to get it, the statement said adding that BAT would seek the President's intervention in the matter.
