Agartala, July 31 (UNI) A local court in West Tripura has directed police to submit an investigation report in two weeks about trafficking of a girl in the state.

The Khowai sub-divisional court order came yesterday after one Mangal Debbarmma, resident of Asharambari area, had filed a writ.

According to the allegation, the family members of former Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council member Arjun Telenga sold out Mangal's daughter Gita in Haryana early this month taking advantage of their abject poverty.

Mangal had also filed a case against the Telenga family on July 14 in Champahaur police station, but police allegedly did not take any action, which compelled Mr Debbarmma to lodge a complain with the court.

After hearing the case, the court directed the police to investigate the matter and take initiative to rescue Gita within next 15 days.

Mr Debbarmma said initially they were confused about the missing girl but on July 13 she had made a phone call to her mother and informed that she was in Haryana and Telenga family had sold her to a businessman for Rs 40,000.

Meanwhile, Tribal wing of Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee protested the incident and demanded safe recovery of Gita and action against the police officer for delaying investigation.
