Trawling ban ends midnight tonight

Thiruvananthapuram, July 31 (UNI) About 3,500 mechanished fishing vessels and 16,000 country crafts will venture into the sea from Kerala coasts as the 47-day Annual Monsoon Ban on trawler vessels ends midnight tonight.

The ban was enforced in the State from June 14 and no untoward incident was reported from the coastal areas during the ban period.

The Government had taken all precautionary measures to meet any eventuality during the period and four special cells were opened by the Coast Guard at Vizhinjam, Neendakara, Kochi and Beypore fishing harbours. Besides, speed boats were in operation in all fishing harbours for patrolling as well as rescue operations.

Though the ban had ended, only registered and licensed boats could venture into the sea.
