Torrent Power cracks down on power thieves

Ahmedabad, July 31 (UNI) Torrent Power officials along with GEB officials and police raided a farmhouse 'Ilaxiben Farm' in Danilimda and the surrounding areas of the city and seized over 8 km long cables and wires.

The officials during the raids yesterday checked 800 houses in Azadnagar row house, Jantanagar rowhouse, Razianagar, Bismillahnagar, Simran rowhouse, Shahalam rowhouse, Amberpark and Allahmahamadi societies.

In a release here today, Torrent Power said that it is in the process of identifying the middlemen involved and filing FIRs against them.

These raids come close on the heels of a raid in Juhapura area and are part of Torrent Power's continued efforts to catch power thieves. A designated bourt had recently sentenced a power thief to two years rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 4.5 lakhs, the release added.
