Bhubaneswar, Jul 31 (UNI) An eight-month-old female sloth bear was rescued and shifted to Nandankanan Zoo today by activists of People for Animal, an organisation engaged in the wellbeing of animals in Orissa.

People for Animal(POA) secretary J B Das said they rescued the sloth bear from one Trinath Behera of Kukuda Khandi in Ganjam district on being informed that the animal, considered as schedule-I animal as per Wildlife Protection Act 1972, had been kept illegally.

The POA swung into action and immediately communicated the matter to the Principal Conservator of Forest(Wildlife) and the Divisional Forest Officer of Berhampur to intervene into the matter.

With the help of Wildlife staff and members of People for Animals the sloth bear was rescued and then shifted to Nandankanan Zoo, Mr Das said.
