Security forces on alert in Punjab

Chandigarh, July 31 (UNI) Security forces have been put on high alert after a Special CBI Court today prounced death penalities to Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) terrorists Jagtar Singh Hawara and Balwant Singh in the Beant Singh assassination case.

Three others--Lakhwinder Singh, Shamsher Singh and Gurmit Singh--were given life terms.

'' The security forces have been alerted through out the state as a precautionary measure,'' a senior police official stated here.

Though the police do not foresee any form of immediate retaliation, but still there would no laxity on the part of the security force personnel, the official said. Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal had on Sunday stated that the police personnel were on alert to deal with any form of retaliation.

The police has set up special check points at various places in Punjab and patroling has been intensified. Additional forces have been stationed in sensitive places and in the major cities of Amritsar, Ludhiana and Jalandhar.
