Rains elude most parts of Punjab, Haryana
Chandigarh, July 31 (UNI) Hot and humid weather conditions prevailed in Punjab and Haryana as monsoon rain eluded most parts of twin states during the past 24 hours.
Rains lashed isolated places in Punjab, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh overnight and sultry weather persisted in the plains.
Barring Muktsar and Faridabad, which recorded 15.2 mm and 2.0 mm rain respectively overnight, major towns in Punjab and Haryana had no rainfall.
Light to moderate rain lashed parts of Himachal Pradesh, including mid and lower hills. Solang Nala was the wettest place in the state, recording 20.0 mm, followed by Dhundi measuring 17.2 mm and Berthin 10.1 mm rainfall. The capital town of Shimla also had no rains.
Chandigarh and its adjoining areas were lashed by rains and the city recorded 24.8 mm till 0830 hours. However, humid conditions prevailed in the city.
The Met Office predicted light to moderate rain or thundershowers at few places in Himachal Pradesh, Punjab and Haryana during the next 24 hours.
