Punjab FCR takes serious note of stamp duty fraud

Kapurthala, July 31 (UNI) Punjab Financial Commissioner Revenue Romila Dubey has taken serious note of the alleged Rs 28 lakh stamp duty evasion on the registration of sale deed of a prime location plot here.

Deputy Commissioner J M Balamurugan today said the FCR had asked for the detailed report of the evasion of the stamp duty on the sale of a commercial plot and the administration would soon send her the inquiry report of the SDM, who was already looking into the matter.

The SDM was also probing into the issue of actual title of the 110 Marlas sold in the controversial land deal, which is said to be belonging to the Punjab Government, the DC said.

The DC had received a complaint of evasion of stamp duty on the registration of sale executed on February 16, 2006 by showing a commercial plot as residential plot situated on the old Sabzi Mandi road.

The buyers had paid the stamp duty of Rs 4,32,000 on the ''residential plot'' and thus evaded a stamp duty of Rs 28 lakh which would have been required on registration of a commercial plot.

Meanwhile, following the recent media expose on the stamp duty evasion fraud, a coloniser, who is building a multi-storeyed commercial complex on this land, has allegedlly begun making threatening calls to a local reporter on his mobile phone.

A deputation of local reporters today met the SSP and gave a written complaint against the coloniser in this regard.

The SSP has assured them of stern action against the coloniser, the delegation members said.
