Proposal for providing permanent commission for women in Army

Indore, July 31 (UNI) Army Chief General J J Singh today said the Army was examining a proposal to provide a permanent commission to women soldiers.

Talking to reporters after inaugurating a shooting range at Army Marksman Unit at Mhow near here, General Singh said women officials were treated on par with men in the Army and they worked with equal efficiency.

He said the situation was completely under control in Kashmir and other disturbed areas.

General Singh said it was a constitutional responsibility for the Army to complete the task whenever it was deployed in a disturbed area, where it had to work with public.

Under such circumstances, it was the endeavour of the Army to deal firmly with the terrorists, while treating people fairly.

Pointing out that humane face of the Army should be projected before public, he admitted that several times untoward incidents do take place. However, corrective measures were taken to avoid repetition.

The Army General said occurrence of untoward incidents in Indian Army was very less as compared to armies of other countries.

Regarding recruitment in the Army, he said changes were made regularly in selection so that better candidates could be included in the Army.

About expectations of Army officials from the Sixth Pay Commission, he said army personnel should get their due right given the challenges before them.
