Hyderabad, July 31: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, who had announced a special package to bring the farm sector out of crisis and avert high incidence of suicide among farmers, today began a review of the progress made by Andhra Pradesh in key sectors, particularly agriculture.

The meeting began with Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy making a presentation on the efforts being made by his Government to step up agriculture growth rate and allied activities, including animal husbandry, fisheries, poultry and horticulture.

The meeting was being held at a time when the state was witnessing a political storm in the wake of the recent killing of seven activists of the Left in Mudigonda in the Marxist stronghold of Khammam district, with the main opposition TDP joining hands with the Communists, agitating for cultivable land to the poor and housing sites.
