Senior doctor held in Nayagarh foeticide case

Bhubaneswar, Jul 31: Assistant Chief District Medical Officer of Capital Hospital Dr S K Brahma, wanted in connection with the Nayagarh foeticide case, was tonight arrested by police.

Dr Brahma, who surrendered before Inspector General (Crime Branch) B K Sharma in the afternoon, was immediately taken to Nayagarh by a team of crime branch officials probing the case in which police had unearthed female foetuses from an abandoned well in Nayagarh on July 22.

Police sources said Dr Brahma was arrested under the PNDT Act since he had conducted sex determination test in an unregistered Clinic in Nayagarh.

Dr Brahma was the second doctor to be arrested in the case.

Earlier, the police had arrested Dr Banamali Swain for running a Nursing Home in Nayagarh where the sex determination tests were also conducted in clear violation of the PNDT Act.
