Hyderabad, July 31 (UNI) Telugu Desam Party (TDP) President and former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, along with party leaders, began a day-long fast today to protest the Mudigonda police firing which claimed eight lives.

The opposition TDP organised the one-day hunger strike to draw the attention of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, who was presiding over a review meeting on the state's agricultural scenario and infrastructure development in the city.

Addressing people and media at the fasting camp at Indira Park, Mr Naidu demanded that the Prime Minister visit Mudigonda, where police opened fire on Left workers on July 28.

Alleging that the police were preventing party workers at various places on the city outskirts, who were on their way to Indira Park, the TDP chief demanded that the Prime Minister should give an answer on the Mudigonda incident and his reluctance to visit the village.

He demanded that the state government appoint an independent authority to solve the land issues in the state.

Earlier, the TDP leaders and workers observed two-minute silence in memory of the people persons killed in police firing.
