Shimla, Jul 31 (UNI) Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh today said municipal bodies should generate own income to carry out their developmental activities by encouraging people to pay their taxes.

Addressing a public meeting at Rohru in Shimla district after inaugurating the marketing sub yard, constructed at a cost of Rs 1.40 crore, he said municipal bodies need to generate own revenue for their self-sustenance by making use of municipal provisions.

Mr Singh announced the upgradation of Rohru Nagar Panchayat to Municipal Council and advised it to formulate suitable plan for income generation to meet its recurring expenditure.

Expressing concern over the congestion on the Rohru-Shimla road, he said work for the construction of Rohru by pass would be initiated soon.

He said the renowned business houses like Adani and Reliance had shown interest in marketing the agro-produce of the state adding that this would help in saving previous financial resources of the farmers who otherwise they would have to spent on plucking, grading, packing and forwarding of the apples.

Speaking on the occasion, HP Marketing Board Chairman Satya Prakash Thakur said the marketing network was expanded to facilitate the growers sell their produce in local marketing sub yards at remunerative prices.
