Maoist guerrillas arrested in Patna
Patna, Jul 31 (UNI)Self-styled ''Commander'' of the Maoist guerrillas Madanpal and two of his accomplices were arrested by a joint team of special task force (STF) and the city police here yesterday.
Official sources here today said, acting on a tip off the team members swooped down on the criminals while they were walking down the Ashok Rajpath in the city last evening. Soon they were taken to the police headqurters for a thorough interrogation and to find out the reason behind their visiting Patna. However, no arms or ammunition was recovered from them.
The arrest of the senior Maoist leader, who was wanted in connection with several murders in Bihar and Jharkhand, was a 'major success' of the government's anti-naxalite drive, the sources said.
They did not rule out the possibility of the Maoist leader's visit to the city to carry out extremist operation in one of the local jail premises to free their arrested colleagues during the ongoing Martyrs'week, being observed by them to mark the 29th death anniversary of Naxalite leader Charu Majumdar.
