Man held for raping, murdering minor in Pune

Pune, July 31 (UNI) A 27-year-old man was today arrested for allegedly raping and murdering a minor girl and later dumping her body into the River Muttha, near Swargate area, here late last night.

Swargate Police today said the accused, Hirachand Poolchand Saroj, was arrested after a complaint was lodged by the minor's parents this afternoon.

According to police, Hirachand lured the child on the pretext of buying her chocolate and took her to an isolated place, where he raped and murdered her, before throwing her body into the river. The body was later recovered by fire brigade officials this afternoon.

In another case, a labour contractor, Mangesh, was allegedly murdered by his rival, Vijay Virajdar, over a dispute arising over a contract deal in the Kothrud area this morning, police added.
