Man detained for 'illegally' possessing silver coins

Kolkata, July 31 (UNI) Customs authorities at the NSCBI Airport have detained one Rajesh Kumar after his arrival here from Yangon(Myanmar) for possesing 450 silver coins for which he failed to give any satisfactory explanation.

Customs officials said Rajesh, originally a resident of Rajasthan now lives in Yangon. Re one denomination silver coin of British Period is now valued at Rs one lakh.

Custom authorities are now trying to find out whether the coins have any archaeological value. They have also called upon the services of experts of Archaeological Survey of India.

Rajesh has been conditionally released but the coins have been seized for the time being.
