House discusses insult of minister by the Army

Imphal, July 31 (UNI) Members of Manipur Peoples' Party(MPP) raised the issue of detention of state Health Minister P H Partijat by Asom Rifles on July 18 in the state's Legislative Assembly session.

Member MPP O Joy and R K Anand raised the issue at the session which begun here today.

O Joy said such an act amounts to breach of privilege of the house and a privilege motion should be taken up against the officer.

Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh said the Army had been instructed to limit their activities and an enquiry has been started on the matter.

The Chief Minister further said he has no objection to offering the post of the Deputy Speaker to the Opposition. Speaker Dr S Buddhichandra announced that the election for that post will be held on Thursday next.
