HC go-ahead to National Films Awards

New Delhi, July 31 (UNI) The Delhi High Court today vacated its earlier injunction and allowed the Centre to annouce the 53rd National Film Awards that was stayed for four months on account of a controversy over selection of films.

Justice B D Ahmed vacated its order and allowed the Information and Broadcasting Ministry to announce the awards as per the new schedule which were earlier scheduled to be announced on May 12.

Jury member Shyamli Banerjee Deb had approached the court stating that there were many discripencies in the selection procedure. She challanged the process adopted by the board for selecting films and asked to make selection procedure ''transparent''.

The decision brought an end to the yearlong controversy over announcement of the awards.
