Handicapped vendors suicide: case against 2 leaders
Varanasi, July 31 (UNI) A criminal case was registered this evening against two people in connection with 12 street-side physically challenged vendors attempting suicide in Gurubag area here.
A case of abetting suicide has been registered at the Luxa police station against Namo Narayan and Ravi Nath alias Ravi Banerjee for inciting the vendors to resort to the extreme step earlier in the day, Senior Police Superintendent S B Shirodkar said.
Out of the two vendor leaders, Namo Narayan had also attempted suicide and is presently undergoing treatment at the district hospital.
Out of the 12 vendors who attempted suicide, Radhey alias Rajesh Maurya died at the district hospital.
The SSP, further said the FIR also mentions the role of two electronic media scribes representing two national channels in inciting the protestors to attempt suicide. ''Their role will be investigated thoroughly.'' The police, however, has not ruled out lodging cases against other people, including some electronic media scribes in the entire matter following further investigations into the matter.
