Ex Mayor Hymavathi passes away

Kozhikode, July 31 (UNI) Former Kozhikode Corporation Mayor Hymavathi Thayattu died following a prolonged illness at Chennai last night.

She was 80. She is survived by a son and daughter.

A writer and teacher by profession, Hymavathi had the distinction of becoming the first woman Mayor of Kerala, when she was elected to head the civic body in 1988.

The cremation would take place in Chennai later in the day, family sources said.
