Epigon brings out 20 inch LCD TV

Bangalore, July 31: Epigon Media Technologies, a first generation Indian technocrats floated company has come out with a 20 inch LCD TV with HDMI interface to cater the Indian market.

Expected to be marketed at Rs 16,000 price tag, the television was on the test line. Epigon was holding discussions with a few three tier TV makers across the country to launch it in the market.

The feature rich television with a picture-in-picture to scan channels was uniquely designed for Indian market, Chief Business and Product Development Officer of the company R J Venkatramanan, told UNI in an interview.

With an On-Screen Display of menu in English and Hindi viewers could enjoy two pictures on a screen with single tuner technology and also tune to the best picture sharpness from the received signal. It had an optional music alone facility besides 100 preset channels.

A one million dollar company, Epigon Media Technologies has its development centre here and sales and support office in Japan and Taiwan. Established in July 2000, Epigon had been a profit making company since inception and had not sought any external funding with the profits being ploughed back. It had 50 highly skilled DSP, Algorithm specialist besides software and hardware system engineers, who included 15 M Techs and three Phds.

Epigon has also developed a mobile radio for Worldspace that was currently being tested in Bahrain. Once successfuil the radio could be fitted to any automobile and was perhaps the first of its kind in the country. Epigon had also developed internet radio sets that could tap more than 2000 internet radio stations currently on air.

Mr Venkartaramanan said that the company was currently tapping venture capital companies to the tune of two million US dollars to enhance its resource base to meet its growing demand. A few companies outside the country, including some in Singapore had shown interest. He regretted that a few Indian VCs who were approached were unable to analyse a product company in comparison to those which were service oriented.
