Chennai, July 31 (UNI) The Tamil Nadu unit of the CPI will stage a state-wide agitation on August nine demanding the Centre to lift the ban on recruitment in government departments.

Talking to reporters here today, CPI State Secretary D Pandian said at a time when the unemployment rate was on the rise, the Centre had failed to lift the ban on recruitment.

Several lakh posts in the government departments were lying vacant across the country and the Centre should come forward to lift the ban, he added.

The agitation would be held in front of all Central goverment offices throughout the state, he said.

He said the party would also stage a demonstration in front of all Taluk offices across the state urging the DMK government to provide free house sites to landless labourers.

Mr Pandian also urged the state government to pass a resolution in the state Assembly and file an appeal to get the stay on holding meetings in public places vacated.

On the Tata's Titaniumdioxide issue, Mr Pandian said the CPI never intended to hurt the feelings of the Chief Minister or hinder the welfare schemes brought out by the government.

The controversy over the shelving of the Tata's Titanium project could have been avoided if the government had come out with a white paper on the project, Mr Pandian added.
