CPI increases by a point

Shimla, Jul 31 (UNI) The All India Consumer Price Index Number for Industrial Workers (CPI-IW), on base 2001=100, for the month of June this financial year increased by one point to stand at 130, sources in the Labour Bureau said.

The index increased by six points in Amritsar centre, four points each in Warangal, Ernakulam and Quilon centres, three points in seven centres, two points in 11 centres and one point in 27 centres, they said.

The index decreased by one point in eight centres, while remained stationary in 21 centres.

The sources said the increase of six points in Amritsar centre was due to rise in the prices of Rice, Milk, Vegetable and fruit items, school/college fee and washing soap etc.

The increase of four points in Ernakulam, Quilon and Warangal was due to rise in the prices of fish, vegetable and fruit items, while the decrease of one point in eight centres was due to fall in the prices of some items including vegetables, dals, rice and wheat, they said.

The CPI-IW stood at 135 in Bangalore followed by 134 at Mumbai, 130 at Kolkata, 128 at Delhi, 127 at Ahmedabad and 125 at Chennai centre.

The point-to-point rate of inflation, based on CPI-IW, decreased from 6.61 per cent in May to 5.69 per cent in June this year.
