Constable injured as bomb explodes
Nagpur, July 31 (UNI) A police constable was injured when he lifted a pressure bomb planted by naxalites in Permilli police outpost in Gadchiroli district today.
The constable suffered injuries on the head and face and is out of danger, police said.
A police team were on their routine check, when they observed red-coloured clothes lying on the ground. A bomb was concealed under the cloth, which exploded when constable Bhalchandra Pawar, attached to Aheri police station, lifted it.
In another related incident, police exchanged fire with naxals at Jambhia Gatta police outpost in jurisdiction of Etapalli police station here today. The incident occurred in Gorguta forests, about 12 km from Jambhia Gatta.
About 12 naxalites attacked the police team, forcing the latter to retaliate. The encounter which continued for about 25 minutes, ended after the naxals fled from the spot, as the cops put pressure on them.
The police recovered one claymore mine, 100 ft wire, and other material from the spot. The naxals have been active as 'Martyr's Week' was being observed by them since July 29. The cops have intensified their patrolling to avoid any untoward incident during this period.
