City-based Army Officer killed in enounter with militants

Bangalore, Jul 31 (UNI) Colonel Vasanth V, Commanding Officer of 9 Maratha Light Infantry was killed in an encounter with militants in Uri Sector of Jammu and Kashmir today.

The mortal remains of Col Vasanth was expected to reach the city tonight, a defence press release said here.

The 40-year-old officer, a recipient of Vishisht Seva Medal (VSM) for his meritorious services, leaves behind his wife Ms Subhashini and two daughters aged ten and eight years respectively.
