Kolkata, July 31 (UNI) All India Minority Forum (AIMF) and Furfura Darbar Sharif (FDS) have sought a reply from Calcutta High Court to know whether Muslims can enter the court room wearing their religious cap.

In a joint letter to Calcutta High Court Chief Justice S S Nijjar, Forum's secretary Moulana Abdur Rahim and Furfura Sharif official T Siddiqui yesterday referring to a recent incident of preventing a man from entering the court room with the cap on saying - '' We want to know from your Lordship the interpretation of law in the matter or what is the rule of the court in this regard?'' The letter cited the incident of July 12 that a policeman on duty restrained Moulana Abdur Rauf Mistry alias Abdur Rauf Mistry from entering the court room No 1 as he was wearing a '' religious cap''. The policeman had asked the Moulana to enter the court room after taking off the cap (which is used in prayer).

'' This is a serious matter since Muslims, Sikhs and other members belonging to the minority communties were being humiliated in various ways in West Bengal also,'' the letter, said.

'' We also want to know about the provision in the Constitution or act of the police in court in this regard,'' stated the letter.

Moulana Abdur Rahim and T Siddiqui also questioned whether the police can ask or compel the persons belonging to Muslim, Sikh or other communtiy to enter the court room by taking off the religious cap.
