BJP urges PM to solve farmers' woes
Hyderabad, July 31 (UNI) The BJP leaders in Andhra Pradesh today urged Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to solve the problems of the farmers in the state.
In a letter to the Prime Minister, a copy of which was released to the Press, party state unit President Bandaru Dattatraya, National Secretary N Indrasena Reddy and others urged him to waive the interest on crop loans of farmers whose loans were rescheduled in 2004.
Stating that the farmers were provided with low quality seeds they said the country needed a new Seed Act.
They urged him to announce the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for chilli and turmeric and to increase MSP for paddy from Rs 950 per quintal.
They said the Agriculture Income Insurance Scheme should be implemented immediately and the river-linking project formulated during the NDA rule should be revived.
