Bihar CM meets Mauritius Leader of the Opposition
New Delhi, July 31 (UNI) Bihar Chief Minister Nitish kumar held a meeting with the Leader of the Opposition in the Mauritian National Assembly, Nandcoomar Bodha, who represents the Mauritius Socialist Movement (MSM) party.
During the meeting held in Mauritius yesterday, Mr Bodha assured him that the Indian-origin population of Mauritius had kept alive its traditional customs and language. Mr Bodha also drew Mr Kumar's attention to the fact that the Mauritian sugar industry, which had traditionally been the mainstay of its economy, was currently facing tough times due to the reform of European Union's Sugar protocol.
The increased collaboration with India would help Mauritius to diversify the sugar sector towards the production of energy through ethanol and bagasse and other high value products, a release here today said.
Mr Bodha said there was great potential for economic cooperation between Mauritius and India in the field of small and medium enterprises, especially in areas like Agro-processing. He also highlighted the potential of added tourism flows betwen Bihar and Mauritius and stressed the importance of improving the air-connectivity between Mauritius and India.
Mr Kumar also had a meeting with the former Mauritius prime minister Paul Berenger and discussed a wide range of issues of mutual interest.
Mr Berenger is presently the leader of the Mauritian Militant Movement (MMM) party and part of the opposition in Mauritius Parliament.
