Bandh evokes poor response in UT
Puducherry, July 31 (UNI) The dawn-to-dusk bandh called by the Janata Dal (Secular), Nationalist Congress Party and Rashtriya Janata Dal evoked poor response in the Union Territory today.
The agitation was to press the government to fill up 65 per cent seats in all private medical colleges and 50 per cent seats in minority institutions as in the neighbouring state of Tamil Nadu.
Normal life was not affected. Most of the shops and business establishments were open. Vehicles were plying and schools, government offices, major textile mills and small industrial units were also functiong.
The elaborate security arrangements were made and police patrol intensified.
A few bandh supporters were taken into custody as a preventive measure.
