Army Officer dies in encounter in J

Bangalore, July 31 (UNI) Commanding Officer of 9 Maratha Light Infantry, Colonel Vasanth, was killed in an encounter with militants in Uri Sector of Jammu and Kashmir today.

The mortal remains of Col Vasanth were expected to reach the city tonight, a defence press release here said.

The 40-year-old officer was a recipient of Vishisht Seva Medal for his meritorious services.

He is survived by his wife Ms Subhashini and two daughters aged ten and eight.
