Army colonel, 2 soldiers and 3 militants killed in Kashmir

Srinagar, July 31 (UNI) An Army Colonel, two soldiers and three Pakistan infiltrators were killed in a fierce encounter in Uri sector of Jammu and Kashmir today. .

A defence spokesman confirming the incident said operation was still going on.

He said two soldiers were killed. Three to four militants have also been killed, further details are awaited.

Official sources said troops guarding the Line of Control (LoC) in Uri sector noticed a group of militants sneaking into this side from Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (POK) early this morning.

When challenged and asked to surrender, militants opened fire.

Troops also returned the fire and in the encounter a Colonel and two soldiers were killed.

Sources said three infiltrators were also killed.

The operation was going on when the reports last came in, they said.
