Agitation by Federation of Handicapped Associations

Puducherry, July 31 (UNI) As many as 54 members of the Federation of the Handicapped Associations, including 19 women, were arrested when they picketed the Social Welfare Department and attempted to lock it, to press their demands.

The protestors took out a procession and picketed the Social Welfare Department demanding three per cent reservation for the handicapped, provision of tricycles to the eligible and provision of free rice, which was stopped several months back.

They also pressed to fulfilment of all promises made by the Chief Minister.

However, police intervened and arrested them when they attempted to lock the gate of the office.
