36-year-old youth awarded lifer for killing wife

Bangaon, Jul 31 (UNI) An Additional District and Session Court in North 24 Parganas here today sentenced a man life imprisonment under Gaighata police station for killing his 26-year old wife in June, 2006.

Additional District and Session judge Asha Aurora awarded lifer to 36- year old Sibu Sil from Chandigarh and imposed a fine of Rs 1,000 or in case of default of payment, an additional imprisonment of one month.

The Judge said Sibu Sil, a cultivator, had killed her 26-year old wife Babita by strangulating her and left the body in a nearby bush on June 26 last year.

Police arrested Sibu on June 29, 2006 on the basis of a complaint lodged by the victim's father with Gaighata police station.

Altogether 15 witnesses were examined during trials, Assistant Public Prosecutor Samar Chattopadhyay said.
