13-member gang arrested in ING Vysya bank robbery case

Ongole, Andhra Pradesh, July 31 (UNI) The district police today arrested 13 members of a gang, including the mastermind, on the charge of looting Rs one crore cash from ING Vysya bank van on July 19 in Prakasham district and recovered Rs 82.03 lakh from them.

Addressing the Press here, District Superintendent of Police (DSP) Vineet Brijlani said the bank attender Mallikarjuna, the mastermind in the robbery, had suffered a loss of about Rs 25 lakh AND wanted to recoup the same by looting money from the bank's van.

He said Mallikarjuna planned the dacoity with his friend and looted the money from the van, while it was being shifted to Vijayawada from Ongole.

Two more gang members -- Sai Baba of Mahanandi and M Rangaiah -- were absconding. Efforts were on to arrest them.
