Agartala, Jul 30 (UNI) The Union Home Ministry has agreed to provide financial grant to Tripura for introducing Common Intelligence Police Application (CIPA) to prevent inter-state crime.

The state home department officials here today said the Centre has given a nod to the state government's Rs 18 crore CIPA project.

Under the modernisation project for police forces, the Centre would provide computers and other accessories to 22 selected police stations of the state.

The officials said the Centre considers Tripura as a strategic state for its proximity to Bangladesh, which has emerged as a hub of fundamentalists and international terrorists.

Since the state shares 856 km border with Bangladesh, there was a serious threat to India's national security, the Centre wanted to ensure fool-proof security at the border, officials said.

Initially the Centre would introduce CIPA at 22 police stations of the 55 in the state, which would be connected with other CIPA operated police stations across the country.

The plan is mulled for better coordination including sharing of intelligence inputs among the police stations, officials said adding that Officer-in-Charge (OC) of the particular police station would pass intelligence inputs to other police stations through email.
