Top officials' residence burgled in UP

Varanasi, July 30 (UNI) Burglars struck at the residence of three district and police officials in the Cantonment area here and made away with valuables.

The incident came to light this morning when district development officer Rajiv Bankata on returning with his family from Allahabad found the locks of his official residence behind the Circuit House broken.

Inside the house, he found the property ransacked and burgled, police said.

On being informed, police rushed to the spot only to find the locks of two other houses in the high security zone, including that of Additional Police Superintendent S P Rai and Legal Officer U C Pandey also broken and property burgled.

While Rai had been transfered to Jhansi, the legal officer has also been transferred. While the legal officer had shifted most of his belongings from the Varanasi residence, the family of Rai which was still living here was presently in Jhansi.

Both Rai and Pandey had left for Varanasi after they camt to know of the burglary. Investigations were on.
