Tihar doctor gets five year RI for accepting bribe
New Delhi, July 30 (UNI) A CBI special CBI court today sentenced a Resident Medical Officer (RMO) of the Tihar jail to five years' rigorous imprisonment and imposed on him a fine of Rs 50,000 for accepting a bribe from an ailing prisoner.
RMO Ram Chander had demanded Rs ten thousand as bribe from one Balwinder Singh who was lodged in Tihar Jail eight years ago.
Singh was suffering from a heart ailment and had to be shifted to the jail hospital on June 25, 1999. The doctor had promised to discharge him, if he paid up.
However, Balwinder alerted the Jail Superintendent, who, in turn, informed the Anti-Corruption Bureau of the Delhi Police. A trap was laid on July one, that year and the doctor was caught red-handed accepting the bribe.
CBI Special Judge S K Kaushik held him guilty, and passed the order for rigorous imprisonment.
