Tempos will not pay parking tax: Assn

Puducherry, July 30 (UNI) Owners of the three-wheeler passenger tempos here have decided not to pay the parking tax levied by the Puducherry municipality with effect from August one.

Addressing newspersons today, association secretary D Murugayyan said the Puducherry municipality had not fulfilled its promise of providing parking space for tempos inside the busstand given at the time of carrying out remodelling works inside the terminus.

However, the municipality had earmarked parking zones for autorickshaws and town buses inside the bus terminal, he pointed out. Making it clear that the association would not pay the parking tax till a positive response was received from the municipality, he said picketings would be organised before the Municipal chairperson's office as the next course of agitation.

As many as 115 tempos were operating form the busstand and the municipality was levying Rs 7 per day for each tempos.
