R R Patil promises strict anti-ragging laws
Mumbai, Jul 30 (UNI) Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister R R Patil today assured the Legislative Assembly that government would enact strict laws to curb the menace of ragging in educational institutions.
The assurance came in response to an adjournment notice moved by BJP leader Eknath Khadse and CPM member Narsayya Adam soon after the house assembled after a four-day break.
The members highlighted the suicide of Jalgaon-based Dr Digvijay Patil, who was studying for an M.D course at the Solapur Medical college. The two members said in his suicide note, Digvijay has blamed his seniors--three girls and one boy for his death.
Patil said an investigation would be carried out into the suicide and the four students would be booked under section 306 of the IPC.
Their medical registration would also be cancelled, he added.
He promised to enact strict legislation to stop the menace of ragging.
