Programme to check corruption at check posts in Kerala

Thiruvananthapuram, July 30 (UNI) In a bid to cleanse the check posts in Kerala from corruption, the government has come forward with a programme to eliminate corruption and increase the efficiency of the check posts.

State Finance Minister TM Thomas Issac said as a first step, the programme would kick start from Walayar check post, through which the majority of the goods reach the state.

As part of the ''Corruption Less Walayar'' programme, more facilities would be provided for the vehicles, reaching the state.

Now, the vehicles had to queue up for about 24 hrs for getting clearance, Mr Issac said through this programme, the time for getting clearance would be just two hours.

Moreover, all the details about the vehicle and the goods would be made on-line so that it could be checked by any authority.

The present 5-6 counters at the check post will be increased to 12 and no unauthorised parking near the check posts would be allowed.

There would also be an official help line for giving guidance to the drivers of the vehicles.

A provision for green channel to allow the vehicles that need not give taxes would also be provided, Mr Issac said.

Apart from this, more staff would be appointed at the check posts and the satellite check posts and the Intelligence Squad would also be strengthened.

Mr Issac said the programme would be implemented in the other check posts in the coming days.

The ''Corruption Less Walayar'' programme would be inaugurated by Chief Minister VS Achuthanandan next month, he added.
