Poultry in Haryana safe from bird flu

Panipat, July 30 (UNI) The poultry industry in Haryana is completely safe from bird flu but the government is fully geared to meet any challenge, according to Dr K S Dangi, Director General of the state Animal Husbandry department.

The department has sent about 25000 samples of poultry birds for testing of bird flu so far and the reports of 15000 samples showed none of the sample tested positive for any disease including bird flu, Dr Dangi told mediapersons here after holding a meeting of the owners of poultry farms in the district.

Assuring that the department was fully prepared to meet any kind of challenge, he allayed the fear of bird flu in chickens claiming these were safe and disease-free in every part of the state.

He pointed out that there could have been a possibility of bird flu infection if the birds were imported from other parts of the country.

''Haryana is the exporting state and hence, no possibility of any disease,'' he said and urged the people not to panic due to rumours.
