Aizawl, July 30 (UNI) Aizawl district police special branch sleuths have seized counterfeit currency amounting to Rs 1,98,000, police sources said here today.

Following a tip-off that counterfeit currency had been smuggled into the city, the sleuths nabbed a man Vanlalrova under suspicion yesterday morning and recovered the fake currency from his house later in the evening.

''These are the kind we call 'ISI marked' fake currencies because we believe they are printed by a foreign government. They are very difficult to detect and you can use them anywhere without arousing anyone's suspicion,'' a police source said.

The police have seized 397 of 500 denominations from his rented house in Dawrpui locality here. He originally hails from West Phaileng village.

Police ruled out any connection of this incident with the recent unearthing of a large amount of fake notes of Rs 1000 denomination here.

The Aizawl police have sounded an alarm against fake notes of Rs 1000 denomination which they said were widely circulated in the city.
