PM reviews situation in Andhra Pradesh

Hyderabad, July 30 (UNI) Prime Minister Manmohan Singh held a meeting with Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy at the Raj Bhavan immediately on his arrival here tonight.

The Prime Minister reviewed the situation arising out of the Khammam incident in which six people were killed in police firing on July 28 during a dharna demanding land and house sites for the poor.

The Chief Minister briefed Dr Singh about the events leading to the incidents of firing and subsequent measures taken by the state government.

Dr Singh enquired about the condition of the injured and the family members of those who were killed.

Dr Reddy also apprised him of the relief measures taken and compensation being paid to kin of the victims.

The Prime Minister appealed to all sections of society to maintain calm and reiterated the Government's commitment to the welfare of the poor.
