Manipur: Over 1.2 lakh poultry culled in Imphal
Imphal, July 30: Over 1.2 lakh poultry birds have been culled so far in the bird flu-hit Manipur, officials said.
However, Veterinary officials put the figure at 1.5 lakh.
As many as 30 teams of Rapid Reaction Team (RRT) were engaged in culling at Imphal East and West.
Despite all possible steps taken by the administration to check the spread of infection to human beings, a six-year-old girl was reportedly suffering from the disease and was admitted to J N hospital here, sources said.
A team of the National Institute of Communicable Diseases was also camping here to monitor the culling process, officials added.
Several voluntary organisations have started awareness campaign in several areas to inform and alert the people about the disease and its spread.
However, the officials said, there were attempts to smuggle out chicken after the government banned the movement of poultry within the state following the outbreak of the avian flu at Chingmeirong in Imphal East.
