No threat of bird flu in Mizoram: Vety officials
Aizawl, Jul 30 (UNI) The Mizoram's Vety officials today assured the people there was no need to panic over bird flu threat which has been reported in neighbouring Manipur.
''We have taken every precaution. So far as we are concerned, there is no report of its incidence in Mizoram. So there is no reason for unnecessary panic,'' Vety officials said.
The Vety department had sealed off the borders, both inter-state and international, against importing of animals. Despite the sealing, a few pigs managed to be smuggled from Myanmar from time to time. Seven pigs that had been smuggled from Myanmar were seized at Dungtlang police outpost on Saturday. They have been destroyed by the orders of Champhai sub-divisional magistrate. The smuggler is presently in police custody.
