No threat of bird flu in Mizoram: Vet officials
Aizawl, Jul 30: The Mizoram's Vet officials today assured the people there was no need to panic over bird flu being reported in neighbouring Manipur.
''We have taken every precaution. So far as we are concerned, there is no report of its incidence in Mizoram. So there is no reason for unnecessary panic,'' Vet officials said.
The Vet department had sealed off the borders, both inter-state and international, against importing of animals. Despite the sealing, a few pigs managed to be smuggled from Myanmar from time to time.
Seven pigs that had been smuggled from Myanmar were seized at Dungtlang police outpost on Saturday. They were destroyed by the orders of Champhai sub-divisional magistrate. The smuggler is presently in police custody.
