National policy for Muslim welfare needed: Jaipal Reddy
Hyderabad, July 30 (UNI) Union Urban Development Minister S Jaipal Reddy today stressed the need to bring a 'national policy' for the uplift of poor Muslims in the country.
Inaugurating a two-day national Urdu conference here, Mr Reddy said Muslims were facing discrimination in many sectors and they had few job opportunities.
The national policy would solve the problems faced by the Muslims in the country, he hoped.
Stating that there was also a need to set up a separate Women Urdu University in the city, the Minister said he would give a representation to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, urging him to set up an Urdu University to promote the language with the involvement of women.
Observing that Urdu national TV channel was commissioned during his tenure as the Union Information and Broadcasting Minister, Mr Reddy said he would also urge the Centre to upgrade the Urdu channel into a 24-hour TV channel.
