M'lore Central Excise collects Rs 3,913 cr excise in 2006-07
Mangalore, July 30 (UNI) The Mangalore Central Excise Commissionerate has collected a total excise revenue of Rs 3,913 crore in 2006-07 as against the set target of Rs 2,685 crore, said Mr Ajitkumar Central Excise Commisssioner.
Addressing a press conference here today he said the excise revenue target for 2007-08 was fixed at Rs 2,950 crore. About 95 per cent of the total excise revenue was coming alone from Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Ltd (MRPL), while Tisco was the second major component among the four major industries bringing high excise revenue in the commissionerate.
He said in the customs revenue side, the Commissionerate had collected Rs 600.35 crore during 2006-07 as against the set target of Rs 590 crore. The target fixed for the collection of customs revenue for 2007-08 was Rs 840 crore, he said.
At present a total of 104 services were under service tax net.
Seven more services including telecommunication, mining, advertising agency, online information and data base access or retrieval, asset management and designing would be brought under service tax net from June one, 2007.
There should be exemption of aggregate value of taxable service provided during a financial year was now fixed at Rs eight lakh from the financial year 2007-08 onwards. With effect from June one, 2007, service tax was leviable at the rate of 12.36 per cent.
He said under telecommunication services, mining services and designing services no registration had been made by the traders so far and the response was not enthusiastic. In this view, the commissionerate had planned to facilitate the service providers with informations in the first phase followed by conducting a survey of the service providers under seven new services, he added.
