MISA detenue plea to CM for pension
Chennai, July 30 (UNI) Maintenance of Internal Security Act (MISA) detenue and Communist Party of India (CPI) Functionary R Idumbaiyyan today appealed to Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi to sanction monthly pension and other benefits to all MISA detenus similar to language martyrs.
Addressing the press conference here, Mr Idumbaiyyan said 3,000 persons in Tamil Nadu were detained under MISA, including 400 from the state.
He and 114 other detenues were lodged in the Central Prison at Tiruchirapalli. As many as 45 of them already died.
They had been undergoing untold sufferings for the last 41 years and struggling even for their livelihood. Despite repeated pleas to Mr Karunanidhi and senior ministers of Tamil Nadu, nothing was done about their plight.
He claimed the then Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav sanctioned a monthly pension of Rs 1,000 and other facilities to 11,000 MISA detenues.
